KARMIC TRIBUTE: SOLO JAZZ PIANO
KARMIC TRIBUTE
is a solo jazz piano tribute by Marilynn Seits to some of her favorite
composers including Keith Jarrett, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Bill
Evans, Monk, Mingus and Strayhorn. Marilynn successfully combines the
stylistic elements of each composer/player/arranger into their
respective pieces while maintaining her own unique style of phrasing
and voicing. These freshly innovative arrangements make KARMIC TRIBUTE a rich, dynamic and cohesive listening experience.
"On this gorgeous solo effort, [Marilynn] communicates on a very deep
level, exploring the emotional, as well as melodic and harmonic,
content of composition..." Bob Weinburg, CITY LINK

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT KARMIC TRIBUTE
------------------------------------------------------------------------ MIDWEST RECORD RECAP
...former member of the Chicago progressive jazz community pulls out
all the stops on this solo piano tribute to the ECM and Impulse stars
as well as the progressive stars from before it was a genre. Billy
Strayhorn is the ringer on board, but she takes on his more challenging
works and the theme holds. A solid set that comes from the heart, this
piano tour de force is a solid bet for genre fans looking for a meaty
set that mixes the old and new properly...

JAZZIZ: INDIE CULTURE
...a solo piano tribute to Marilynn's favorite composers including
Evans, Monk, Mingus and Strayhorn. Songs by Billy Strayhorn, Thelonius
Monk, Charles Mingus and Bill Evans are lovingly rendered, conjuring a
raft of complex emotions. So are those by Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett,
Carla Bley and Steve Swallow, showing that Seits is rooted in the
modern practitioners who followed Evans' deep psychological example, as
well. Seits does honor to the all...

Soundscapes is a dynamic and free exploration of free jazz and free form improvization of from three masters of avant-garde Jazz
SOUNDSCAPES: PETER PONZOL, MARILYNN SEITS and ABBEY RADER

SOUNDSCAPES is a dynamic and innovative exploration of improvised free jazz and free form avant-garde jazz played by Peter Ponzol on tenor and soprano saxophones, Marilynn Seits on acoustic piano and Abbey Rader on percussion. This album was recorded using short musical phrases as the basis of each song. There were no charts to follow, no musical keys, no count-off for tempos, just the short opening phrase presented by one of the musicians. Then the the others joined in and created a spontaneous piece of music on the spot.

Many of the songs have an ethnic feel to them such as DERVISH DANCE and FOR BUDDHA. All three musicians have had a long standing interest in Asian music and philosophy and Abbey Rader has a large collect of percussion instruments from around the world that he used on this CD. Some of the songs are very rhythmical as when Abbey started pieces on percussion (track 4 DERVISH DANCE & track 2 PEACE WON). Some are more lyrical as when Marilynn started a piece on piano (track 9, SOUNDSCAPES) and some are more driving and melodic as when Peter started songs (track 1 NO WORDS & track 3 DARK CORNERS).

There was very little editing on this project. What you hear on this CD is pretty much the way it was recorded. Sit back and enjoy this fine example of free jazz improvisation from three masters of the genre.

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT VIBRATIONS
CD Review, Better Directions for New Living
Recline in a comfortable sofa with a glass of
sherry or your favorite herbal tea and prepare to be enchanted.
Marilynn Seits' CD "Vibrations" will engage you in a listening
experience reminiscent of the original jazz heard at the Village
Vanguard, in New York City's Greenwich Village. No stale-factory jazz
here. Most of the pieces were recorded live.
The first piece titled Vibrations, features Shakuhachi flute, piano,
bass and a Burmese Temple Gong. It has movement, dimension and an
eastern modal influence. All the selections flow together and balance
one another. There are some tunes by Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Ned
Washington and Victor Young, and one feels the presence of The Bill
Evans Trio, also. You may find yourself playing it over and over again
to catch some of the jazzy nuances.

Why Katrina Why is an album of classic jazz featuring Marilynn Seits on piano and keyboards, Andy McAusland on guitar, Sean McAusland on bass and Sy Pryweller on drums. The songs were composed by Hal Abercrombie and the title track Why Katrina Why, was written shortly after the hurricane devastated the Gulf Coast and the spiritual home of jazz and blues, New Orleans.
Price: $14.98; S&H: $3.50; S&H to Canada more. There are two blues tracks, Why Katrina Why and In Between Blues; some ballads including the lyrical A Lost Love and Marcus and some upbeat swing tunes including Who Are You and Asian Path. Although recorded in a studio, this CD has the sound of a live recording as there are only two overdubs: one a guitar solo and the other to add a Chinese gong to Asian Path. Even though the guitar and bass are electric and Marilynn plays electric keyboard on two tracks, this CD has the sound and feel of an acoustic album because the melody and solo lines never get muffled or buried in “pedal effects”. This is pure classic jazz in the tradition of Oscar Peterson or Bill Evans.
Composer Hal Abercrombie lives in Wellington, Fl and has had several different careers, among them jazz pianist, composer and teacher. Marilynn Seits is a jazz pianist and composer and you can hear her other CDs of music on this web site as well as on mseitsmusic.com
